Acute and chronic gastric ulcers in an infant.

چکیده
The possible occurrence of peptic ulcers in infancy should be borne in mind when a masic infant fails to improve although there is not sufficient evidence of an infection in the gastro-intestinal ract. Franklin (1942) describes well the puzzling gastrointestinal symptoms in this type of case. Guthrie (1942), in a report on cases with a review of the literature, states that marasmus is the condition most fiequently associated with peptic ulcers in infants past the neonatal period. This case is reported because few have so far been described in this country; Paterson (1922), reporting on two cases, states that in the previous twenty years there was only one case in the literature. In the present case it is of some interest that during the life of the infant peptic ulceration was recognized as being the most probable diagnosis; and treatment to promote healing was instituted without, however, a successful result.

Sensory nerves and calcitonin gene related peptide in the effect of ischemic preconditioning on acute and chronic gastric lesions induced by ischemia-reperfusion.
Ischemic preconditioning is considered as the most powerful gastroprotective intervention against mucosal lesions and ulcerations but the mechanism of this phenomenon has been little examined. In this study we tested the effects of inactivation of sensory nerves in new rat model combining acute gastric erosions with subsequent ulcers induced by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R). I/R lesions were produ...
متن کاملHiatal hernial ulcers: clinical features and follow-up.
We describe the clinical features and therapeutic outcome in 49 patients in whom benign gastric ulceration of an hiatal hernia was demonstrated endoscopically. Hiatal hernia ulcers accounted for 10% of all benign gastric ulcers. The typical patient was an elderly female with a history of dyspepsia who was receiving non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Twenty-seven (55%) patients had evidence ...
متن کاملAdministration of obestatin accelerates the healing of chronic gastric ulcers in rats
BACKGROUND Previous studies have shown that administration of obestatin exhibits a protective effect in the pancreas, attenuating the development of acute pancreatitis. The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of obestatin administration on the healing of chronic gastric ulcers. MATERIAL/METHODS Chronic gastric ulcers were induced in rats by 100% acetic acid applied to th...

Helicobacter pylori is an important etiologic cause of chronic infection of gastric mucus, chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers and gastric cancer in human. The aim of this study was to identify and characterize the dominant antigen of H.pylori, which is responsible for the humoral and cellular immune responses. &nbs...
متن کاملMelatonin in gastroprotection against stress-induced acute gastric lesions and in healing of chronic gastric ulcers.
The degree of gastric damage following to exposition of the mucosa to noxious agents depends upon a balance between the factors promoting this damage and those activating the natural defense mechanisms. Recent findings, presented in this review, provide evidence that melatonin prevents the formation of acute gastric lesions induced by stress and accelerates healing of chronic gastric ulcers due...
